English
Please encourage your child to continue reading as much as possible.
Parents can register with Oxford Owl and get access to numerous ebooks.
You can join the library online (if your child is not a member already) and log into the app Borrow Box https://www.borrowbox.com and you can borrow and read a huge selection of books.
Listening to stories is an important part of developing reading skills.
Chat to your child about what they are reading. What is their favourite part/character?
What do they think will happen next and why?
Ask them to summarise what they have read for you or to create a character profile/image.
Ask them to write an alternative ending to a story or to write the main character's next bestselling adventure!

Keep an eye out for opportunities to check and consolidate spellings during the day for example playing the game hangman with spellings. Children could also put tricky spellings into spelling stories.
Encourage your child to write regularly using his/her best handwriting.
Your child could keep a daily diary or write messages, lists, postcards or letters.
They could use their imagination to create comic strips or research and write mini projects.
Why not have a family writing challenge! Choose a different genre each week.

Gaeilge
Try to drop in some Irish phrases during the day or watch some programmes on TG4.
Why not listen to some songs as gaeilge from Coláiste Lurgan.

Mathematics
Try to fit in some tables practice if possible (See some handy games below!) and try setting some mental maths challenges. Real life maths activities are important such as helping with the shopping list, weighing out ingredients or telling the time. Playing board games such as Snakes and Ladders or Monopoly are a fun way of including maths activities during the day.
