Maths - Data
The children carried out a variety of surveys around the school and represented the data on bar graphs, multiple bar graphs and trend graphs.
Science
We used balloons to learn about the three stages of matter - Solids, liquids and gases. One balloon was filled with air, another water and the third was left in a freezer over night and turned to ice.
Halloween
The class really enjoyed getting dressed up for Halloween. They even managed to perform their very own Halloween Song "I Don't Wanna Be Alone Tonight." The children wrote the lyrics to the song themselves and performed it for the entire school.
Christmas
The children really enjoyed the build up to Christmas. They got the opportunity to make a variety of Christmas decorations from clay as well as making their very own Christmas wreaths.
Art
We worked on still life drawings in art class. The use of colour along with the pencil shadings created a great contrast.
Student Elections
The student elections took place on the 19th February just 11 days after the General Election. The children learned all about the PR system of voting and used this method themselves when it was their turn to vote.
We also looked at posters and slogans used by politicians in past elections both in Ireland and America. We then brainstormed ways in which we could improve the school and the eight children who put themselves forward for election were required to write their manifestos. They also had to design an election poster and come up with a slogan. The other children in the class helped by designing rosettes for each candidate as well as helping the candidates create a slideshow for their speeches.
On the morning of the election the eight candidates made their speeches in an attempt to win over the voters. With Mr Brennan, Fr McMahon and Mrs. Brennan's 3rd class in attendance this was no easy feat but all eight candidates performed brilliantly. With no more left to do the polling booth was open and the votes began to flow in. Turnout was high and once the voting was over it was up to the class teacher to count the votes. Only one boy and one girl could get elected and after the first count both Ryan and Ava had reached the quota and were elected. I would like to thank all the children who took part and I have no doubt both Ryan and Ava will be great representatives for our class.
