Below is a snapshot of some of the children’s work and activities this year.
Introductions-All About Me:

The children planned, designed and created their own Halloween masks.

A number of children from our class put themselves forward as candidates for the Pupil Council Election. Each child did a lot of preparation in advance including designing a poster and writing a speech.
Congratulations to all children involved and especially to Matthew who was elected.

Visit of Hens:
Special thanks to Ciara (SNA) who arranged for the hens’ visit to our school. The children had a wonderful opportunity to see and to hold a variety of hens.

Someone Like Me Project:
This art project was brought to us by The National Disability Authority. The aim of this project is to raise disability awareness amongst primary school children and to provide them with a better understanding of what unites children in their different abilities.
We decided to do a class project in order to include and combine our individual ideas to create a ‘united’ piece of work.

Library Visit:
Athboy library kindly invited us to participate in a Big Book Quiz. The children had great fun working in groups and testing their knowledge. Below are some photos of the winners. Well done to all who participated!

As part of Literacy Week our class visited and paired up with Ms. Kearney’s J.I. Class. They enjoyed meeting, reading stories and talking with the Junior Infant children.

Guard of Honour:
The children helped to prepare a Good Wishes Poster which they displayed during the guard of honour for the boys and girls as they set off to the finals.

In celebration of Grandparents’ Day during Catholic Schools’ Week the children planned, designed and created “Baubles of Love”. Each bauble displayed special memories the children have with their grandparents. They presented these to their grandparents during their special visit to our classroom.

World Book Day:
In celebration of World Book Day the children were invited to come to school dressed as their favourite character or to bring props to represent their favourite character. Can you guess the characters chosen? Well done to all who participated!

St. Brigid Crosses:
The children worked together to make St. Brigid Crosses in honour of St. Brigid.

St. Patrick’s Day Art:
This competition was run by Athboy's St. Patrick's Day Parade committee.
We decided to do a class project to tie in with the concept of “Relationships”. Just as each season is related, we too experience our journeys through life in relationship with each other and in our relationship with each of the four seasons.
The children have creatively presented each season in terms of: Weather, Birds & Animals, Flowers, Pastimes, Clothes and Special Occasions. Their attachment of concrete materials creates a 3D effect. The placement of the shamrock in the centre of each piece and enclosed within a circle represents the central and eternal role of the Trinity throughout the life cycle of the four seasons. The cross (which serves to highlight each season) also reminds us of the trials and tribulations that each season brings. The children have written lines from some well-known prayers (for example: The Sign of the Cross, St. Patrick’s Breastplate and The Glory Be) on their shamrocks. These too are a visual reminder of the central role of our faith throughout our life journeys.
The uniqueness of each piece represents our unique relationship with God, with each other and with each season. By bringing all of the individual entries together as one class entry, we believe that we reveal a united front and embrace the richness that the four seasons of life have to offer.
Finally, by taking your theme as a guide we came up with a slogan to represent our class entry. Our slogan is: “Naomh Pádraig: Ár Naomh do Gach Séasúir” (“Saint Patrick: Our Saint for Every Season”).
Athboy's St. Patrick's Day Parade committee kindly awarded our class a special award for our project. They also dropped in some treats for the class to enjoy.
We hope that you enjoy viewing our class entry. Congratulations everyone!

African Drumming Workshop
As part of well-being week the children attended an African Drumming Workshop (given by Patrick Naughton). This workshop provided physical, cognitive and social benefits.

Fáilte Friday:
Also as part of well-being week some children planned, designed and presented projects in celebration of “Fáilte Friday- Multicultural Day”. Well done to all involved!

These will hopefully be precious mementos of their time with me and their great work this year.
