The Space Race
The class have been exploring the topic of the Space Race, learning about the race to reach space and the challenges astronauts faced during space exploration. Inspired by their learning, the children took on an exciting STEM challenge to design and create parachutes and landing gear to help their very own Eggstranauts land safely back on Earth!
The children planned their designs, carefully selected their materials and put their problem-solving skills to the test. There was great excitement as they tested their creations by launching their brave egg astronauts from the balcony!
Chess
The children visited Mr Sheridan’s 3rd Class to take part in a nationwide chess competition. They impressed the host with their quick thinking and chess skills, earning lots of shout-outs throughout the session!

Library Visits
Mr Shaw has organised regular visits to Athboy Library. During their recent visit, the class enjoyed listening to a reading of Matilda by Roald Dahl before browsing the library and choosing books to bring home.
Silent Movies
The children have been exploring how music helps to tell a story by learning about tempo and dynamics. To put their learning into practice, the class worked together to create their very own silent movies inspired by Charlie Chaplin.

Maths
The children took their maths learning outdoors to explore the world around them using their Maths Eyes. They observed car registration plates and solved a range of maths problems based on the numbers they spotted.
P.E.
During PE so far this year, the children have been developing their hockey skills through a range of fun drills and friendly matches. The children have also been working on their athletics skills, practising the long jump with the guidance of an athletics coach.
History: Schools in the Past
The children have been exploring the topic of Schools in the Past. They examined historical photographs and put on their historian hats, using clues from the pictures to learn about what school life was like in the past. They also enjoyed the opportunity to experience some traditional playground games, including marbles, conkers and chalk games, discovering how children entertained themselves before the days of modern playground equipment and technology.
