Fast Fashion Fix

We learned how the fashion industry is responsible for a huge amount of pollution on the planet. We discussed steps that could be taken to address the problem and explored the concept of 'upcycling'. We brought in old tshirts and cut & tied them to make carrier bags!

Sustainability Islands

This week, as part of our Climate Literacy study, we explored how we could plan and create a fully sustainable society. When planning our islands, we considered food sources, building materials, education, farming and industry.

Hello and welcome to our 5th class blog

Climate Literacy

We will be participating in a Climate Literacy programme over the next 8 weeks. We will engage in activities which will help us to learn to create and live a sustainable future through knowledge, practical skills and taking action. Today we learned about sustainable food sources and explored insects as a protein source. We were given the opportunity to sample mealworms, crickets and cockroaches. Anyone who wanted to, could try all/any of the food samples. Some people were more adventurous than others!

STEM Projects

We were given the task of creating a robot out of recycled materials that we'd find in our homes. STEM is the combination of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Our resulting robots are all shapes and sizes. Some move, some beep, some roll and some light up. All of them are equally wonderful in their own way.

Graffiti Art

One of our first activities to settle in to 5th class was a collaborative graffiti art lesson.
