For the first time in our school's history, O'Growney NS had two teams reach the Meath County Finals of Olympic Handball. For a sport which was only started up in the school last year, it was a fantastic achievement to have two teams compete for county glory. Our 5th class girls team faced some tough opponents that have been playing the sport for years and unfortunately came out on the wrong side of the results, but they should be so proud of their performances to make it that far! Our boys team had some fantastic results on the day, winning both of their group games and a challenge game too. This meant they reached the final vs Robinstown NS in a winner-takes-all match. Our boys came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 and bring the game to extra time. It remained a draw after extra time so it was decided that golden goal would settle the tie. Unfortunately for our lads a deflected shot decided things and Robinstown took the victory. It was agonisingly close for our boys but a 2nd place finish in the county is something which they should be proud of. Both teams represented the school fantastically well and it is great to see the interest in the sport growing in the school!
